With the traditional self-practice approach in Ashtanga Yoga, you’ll quickly become independent and confident enough to practise alone and not be reliant on a teacher.The “tristhana” method gives you a powerful, meditative practice experience. You’ll build strength and flexibility in the lower body and begin to commit the standing poses to memory.With different options for each posture, you’ll feel challenged but in an approachable, sustainable way.You’ll be doing the Sun Salutations and the standing sequence in your sleep by now!In week 4 you’ll learn a few final postures to make your beginners standing sequence complete.In week 5 we’ll move to the floor, but don’t expect it to be too easy!We’ll gradually learn a set of seated postures, as well as a basic form of a vinyasa (the jumping back movement).These postures will help to lengthen the back of the body (hello hamstrings! But it will also be safe, accessible and fun.I firmly believe that Ashtanga Yoga is perfect for beginners, you just have to find the right teacher Know a balanced yoga sequence off-by-heart, so you can practise any time, anywhere without a teacher.Have built more strength and flexibility than you could ever think was possible in eight weeks.Feel noticeably calmer, less anxious and much more mindful throughout the day.Here’s what you’ll learn in Ashtanga Yoga for Beginners:In the first week, you’ll learn a beginners version of Sun Salutation A, with each movement broken down in detail.After a few self-practices you will begin to know the sequence off-by-heart!You’ll learn the correct breathing technique for Ashtanga Yoga and the meanings of all the Sanskrit words often used in yoga classes.You’ll start to build up endurance with Sun Salutation B and put the theory of bandhas and drishti into practice.Sun Salutation B warms up the body even more and prepares the hips, legs and shoulders for the postures to come.Week three is all about the standing sequence.
